Sometimes it can be tough figuring out which wines have a real cork (which help the environment due to their sustainable nature) and which wines have plastic synthetic corks or screwcaps. The Cork Forest Conservation Alliance (http://www.corkforest.org) has a program called "Look for the Acorn" that helps to solve this dilemma. A number of wineries are adopting this "acorn" logo and placing it on their wines, allowing consumers to choose wines that use real cork.

Did you know that cork is completely renewable? It is the bark of cork trees that are primarily grown in the Mediterranean region. The trees are not harmed or cut down during harvest. The cork bark begins to regrow immediately. The trees can live 250 years, all the time filtering carbon dioxide, generating oxygen, and creating an incredibly diverse habitat for plants and animals - not to mention producing a new harvest of cork approximately every nine years.

By using cork products, you're supporting the cork forest. You're helping make the world a better place.
